Be creative @ Your Library with Magic. On Wednesday June 10, 10am-Noon Indian Prairie Public Library had John Morrisy who lives in Oak Park present a Magic for Muggles Workshop. 118 youth were registered to attend and 112 did show up. He provides each child with a magic wand and most materials to take home in a zip lock bag. He relates tricks to incidents in Harry Potter books in one way or another. He teaches the youth how to do all tricks and provides them with written instructions to take home. He provides his own sound system and seems capable of performing anywhere as witnessed by the fact that our Mtg Room carpets were unexpectantly shampooed the night before his performance and we had to relocate to prevent wet fannies. Our youth participants usually sit on the floor. He performed in the youth services dept. area after we moved many tables and chairs.
He charges $150. + $2.50 per participant. He let us give him a final count of those attending by 5PM the night before. He prefers 2nd grade and above but agreed to do 1st grade thru 6th grade and above for us. Patrons thought he was great. He can be reached at 1-708-450-0554.
I've always wanted us (MLS libraries) to meet to discuss the good and the bad of programming for youth but this seems to be working just as well. A number of libraries have contacted me wanting more info on Tobi Star Abrams. Please join me in sharing programming info on youth net if you have the time.Send new youth net entries to:  "youthnet at mls.lib.il.us" <youthnet at mls.lib.il.us>;
Thanks-- Mary-Jo
